Oh! Oh! I know this one!They are by Hugh Walters, and are sometimes available on Amazon second hand. Don't look for them unless you have a stiff drink to hand, though - the last time I looked, they cost upwards of three figures secondhand. In pounds. Each. I sniffed regretfully and backed away.
Those books were the start of my lifelong love of science fiction, and indirectly the reason I went into science. I LOVED them.
