Michael J. Maier Said: Killer Pop Shred ( Dec. 19th 2009 )

"Space Ship One" is one of the most fun CDs I own. Ridiculously good guitar playing and total pop sensibilities. PG writes great hooks for his tunes. The lyrics are silly but catchy. And did I mention fun? These songs had me smiling or laughing a bunch on the first listen.

Linus and Marco do an amazing job backing him. I honestly didn't know Marco could groove and slam like this.

This is one of the very few CDs I would say is accessible to any listener but has enough going on musically to interest musicians and instrumental rock too. (Steve Stevens Flamenco a Go Go would be another).

As for PG, I only own "Space Ship One" and "Silence Followed By A Deafening Roar" but I will certainly be buying the rest of his catalog. Anyone wanna send me some Amazon gift cards to help? :)

Louisiana Man Said: Space Ship One just rules indeed.... ( Apr. 2nd 2008 )

As an old 80's metalhead and guitar player myself, I was already WELL aware of Paul's guitar playing abilities. So I picked this up on a whim one day, and quite frankly, I was blown the #*%& away!!
I had no idea he was this talented a song writer and singer.
I purchased this a week ago, and I haven't stopped playing it almost non-stop yet.
The ONLY reason several of these songs weren't top of the charts hits is that Mtv, Rolling Stone, etc., is nothing but a GD popularity contest.
I now plan on purchasing ALL of his solo albums, and have already ordered a couple of them... yep, this album IS that good....

Music Lover Said: Could top "Burning Organ"........ ( Oct. 9th 2007 )

Great playing (of course) and very catchy songs make for a great listen. I've been playing it nonstop since I purchased it. This CD, versus Paul's other best solo effort, Burning Organ, has heavier songs and Marco (on drums) really stretches out. Paul has since released his first all-instrumental CD which is fantastic, but it will be difficult to top Spaceship One with his next vocal release. Note: The Spaceship One DVD is well worth buying as well, as it also contains a couple of older tracks, along with "Scarified" from Racer X.

Woolybugger Said: Good stuff! ( Aug. 1st 2007 )

I recently saw Paul Gilbert live and his guitar work was awesome. His on stage antics and facial expressions made the experience even better. Only aware of his Mr. Big stuff, I decided to pick up his last two albums.

This album has a really good feel to it, but it still isn't him live. All of the guitar shredders I've seen sound better live than in the studio. Even so, the guitar work on this album is quite superb. At least he sings much better than Via & Satch.

A solid pick-up if you like crafty guitar work.

Patrik Lundstrom Said: Hilarious ( Feb. 23rd 2007 )

This is a great CD. It is very diverse and in addition to the quality of the picking most of the tunes are pretty catchy and humorous. Lyrics-wise Paul is not exactly Bob Dylan but you can't get ewverything.
